    Swirled Rib Glass Wand

    Glass toys are an experience all their own, and one that any sex toy user should have.  Some of the great things about glass toys?  They get and stay super slick with any lubricant.  There is no absorption into the toy and no material compatibility issues with lube.  Glass toys can be smooth, ribbed, bumpy, or wavy…whatever the design, you’re gonna feel it during use.  The texture can be subtle or crazy, but it all feels good.  And last, but certainly not least, temperature play.  I particularly enjoy the feel of a cold toy warming up inside me, but if that’s not your thing you can put a glass toy in warm water to warm it up for you.  It will hold the warmth well for use.  And if you prefer cold?  Put that thing in cold water!!

    The Swirled Rib is only my second foray into glass toys, and I have to say it was even more successful than the first.  This divine glass toy has a little over a 1 inch diameter ball at one end and a slimmer wand portion that is ribbed along the straight portions and has a raised twisted part in the middle.  The total length of the wand (including the ball) is approximately 7 inches.  My Swirled Rib has red and blue swirls in the ball part that sometimes look purple, depending on how you hold the wand.  The very tip of the Swirled Rib is smooth and feels amazing when used to rub the clit.  This looks like a simple and straightforward dildo, but it has so much more to offer than you’d think.  When used for insertion, the straight ribs are not very noticeable, but the twists in the center are positioned perfectly to provide stimulation to the vaginal opening.  I found the twisted (or swirled, if you like) ridges to be raised enough to feel good but mild enough not to distract.  The large bulb also feels great for insertion.  The bulb is intended to be used as a g-spot stimulator, but it didn’t really work in that capacity for me.  I enjoyed the full feeling that the large bulb provided, but I need a little bit of curve to get my g-spot feeling good.  This can also be used for anal pleasure, just make sure you use the slim wand end so that the bulb acts as your flared base.  And, of course, be sure to sanitize it between orifices.   

    This glass toy is from Phallix.  It came in a plastic clamshell type container that was see through.  Inside the container is a little pamphlet that says Phallix on the front and ‘Functional Erotic Glass Art’ on the bottom.  There’s a picutre of a woman holding a glass dildo by her face.  Not really discreet.  The back of the pamphlet tells you about your new dildo, including ideas for temperature play.  There is a section of bulleted points that are meant as reasons why you should choose a Phallix toy that kind of amused me.  Here they are: -Built to last a lifetime, -Cleaner than traditional materials, -hypoallergenic, dishwasher safe, -often recommended by doctors, -slicker than traditional materials, -non-porous, lubricants last longer, -tempered for high quality.  I guess the one that really amused me was ‘often recommended by doctors’.  Who is asking their doctor what dildo to get and under what circumstances does a doctor say ‘get a glass dildo’?  I don’t think I’ve ever discussed sex toys with my doctor, but now I kind of wonder what she’d say.  The inside of the pamphlet is filled with pictures of other Phallix products.  The other thing that was included int he package is a pink satin bag for storage.  The bag is pretty thin and doesn’t provide much protection.  I’m actually more inclined to use the bag to store other silicone toys in and put the Swirled Rib in a padded bag to keep it safe.  

    Glass is pretty easy to care for.  You can clean it with soap and water, toy cleaner, a 10% bleach solution, boiling, or placing it in the top rack of your dishwasher (no soap).  Make sure you check any of your glass toys for any nicks or chips after each cleaning and before you use it again.  A cut in an awkward place wouldn’t be any fun at all!  The Swirled Rib and other Phallix toys are available from this sex shop I trust.

    Silicone Rose Vibe

    I have to admit that this vibrator both intrigued me and made me feel like a giant cheese for wanting it.  The Silicone Rose Vibe is a flexible vibrator that is shaped like…yep, you guessed it! A rose.  To make things a bit more cheesy, this comes in a package similar to what a rose you’d buy at a florist shop would be in and even has a little ‘To: and From:’ card on it.  The top of the vibrator is a closed rose bud and the ‘flexible’ part comes in with the green silicone stem.  The rose bud is the part that vibrates and is controlled by a white plastic base with a push button on the bottom.  This vibrator takes 2 AAA batteries and actually has a decent vibration strength.  I have always heard that Evolved Novelties vibrators were good quality, but this is the first one of their products I have tried.  I have to say that I’m not disappointed with the experience.
    So let’s talk about the dimensions of the Rose Vibe.  The rose bud itself is about 2.5 inches long and is smooth, velvety silicone with a good amount of drag against the skin.  There are three raised lines on the bud that simulate the curled petal leaves visually while providing minimal textural stimulation.  The green stem is 5.5 inches long and is also smooth and velvety.  The stem can be bent in a curve that allows the bud to be even with the battery pack and even pressed a little lower to where the bud base aligns with the base of the battery pack but is arced slightly away.  It doesn’t take much pressure to move the bud from the position you place it in, though.  The battery pack is about 3 inches long, so that puts the total of this vibrator at 11 inches.  Honestly, it’s a little long for my tastes.
    The nice thing about the vibrating rose is that it doesn’t have just one boring setting.  There are a total of seven vibration settings to choose from.  The first three settings are all steady vibrations ranging from low to high.  The fourth vibration is three pulses that start with a short pulse followed by lengthening pulses.  The fifth setting is is five short pulses followed by a 2 second long pulse before repeating.  Setting number six has 2 longer pulses followed by 4 short pulses and  #7 has 3 short fast pulses followed by a 1 second long pulse which is repeated without pauses.  To turn off the vibrations, just hold the button down until it stops.
    But how does it perform?  I was delightfully surprised to find that the strength of the vibrations are pretty good.  The length of the stem makes it a little awkward to use the rose for masturbation, but it can be done.  The best way to use this alone is to hold the bud itself or just below the bud on the stem.  If you hold the base or lower down on the stem you risk the flexibility working against you if any pressure is placed on it.  I found it extremely frustrating to try and put the amount of pressure I desire on my clit holding any part further down on the them.  The rose bud is where the motor for the vibrator is located and where the vibrations are focused, with the most being at the base of the bud.  There is a little bit of squishiness to the rose bud but only the tip bends at all.  I did use the stem during one session to kind of smack the rose bud against my clit when I was about to orgasm and the squishiness made it not uncomfortable to do so.  I didn’t use the bud of the rose for internal stimulation because, for me, this is all about clitoral stimulation.  The vibrations can be felt down the stem but it is so thin that it wouldn’t give any feeling of fullness, which I prefer. I think the rose is ideal for some sensory play.  You can use the tip of the rose to tease yourself or your partner.  It can also be used to twist into a position and place it between you or somewhere on your partner’s body while you do something else.  Just remember that any pressure could cause the shape of the rose stem to change.
    To care for the silicone rose, use water and soap.  According to the Evolved Novelties site, this is a waterproof toy but Babeland lists it as splashproof.  I didn’t submerge this just to make sure it didn’t get ruined, but it ran under running water and after being exposed to running water with no problems.  You could also use a toy cleaner to clean this without problems.  Make sure you that if you use any lubricant with this that you only use water-based lubes and avoid any silicone to silicone contact among your toys.

    Sweet Love

    Sweet Love is an anthology of stories edited by Violet Blue in which the stories are all about erotic fantasies for couples.  I honestly wasn’t sure if I would enjoy this type of book as much as I do other erotic anthologies but I shouldn’t have doubted Violet Blue.  These stories aren’t just about couples having regular run-of-the-mill sex and being so in love, though they are in love.  There are stories that range from bondage to spanking to stranger sex (my favorite) and couples that are new and old.  The book is 215 pages (including the sections for the authors and editor) and glossy paperback style.  The picture on the front isn’t too discreet but I was able to take this to work and read most of it there during down time so long as I was careful to keep the cover face down when others were around.  It might not work so well for most people to have this book out at work though.

    Before I get to some of my favorite stories from the book, let me tell you a little about Violet Blue.  She’s actually a pretty well-known author/editor in the erotica and sex education world and you’ve probably heard of at least one of her books.  One popular group of books she has out is the Smart Girl’s Guide which include books on porn, g-spot play, and oral sex.  She has also edited multiple anthologies ranging from the broad theme of women’s erotica to the specific like Taboo which is full of ‘forbidden fantasies’.   She also has a blog and has appeared on TV shows and podcasts.

    Ok, now onto the stories that I enjoyed the most in this book.

    Jump Or Fall? By Janine Ashbless – Blayne and Izzy work together on an artistic installment that he has designed and she performs as part of the display.  Izzy has a crush on Blayne and has been longing for the day that she can get him into bed but he just keeps turning down her advances.  She finally decides that she is going to straight out ask and get her answer once and for all.  To her surprise, Blayne’s reason isn’t as straight forward as a no co-worker dating rule but more related to his darker desires that he fears will scare her off and ruin their work together.  Once revealed, Izzy decides to take a chance because she’s not nearly as turned off by his desires as he or she expected.

    (S)Pan(K)cakes by Kristina Wright- This couple wakes up in bed and the female character wants to make pancakes.  Adam is more interested in other things but goes out to the kitchen with his girlfriend to watch her cook.  While she’s cooking, he entertains himself by spanking her at intermittent times and then spices it up even more by adding the spatula into the mix.  His girlfriend is getting more and more turned on, enjoying the sexy spanking they eventually have hot sex right at the stove.  The icing on the (pan)cake?  Kristina includes a pancake recipe with directions at the end so you can enjoy your own (S)pan(k)cakes.

    Do You See What I Feel? by Teresa Noelle Roberts- Erik and Carla have invited a friend over to dinner named Ryo who is blind.  But Ryo isn’t just coming for dinner, he’s also coming to meet Carla and inspect the rope corset that Erik has tied around her body under her clothes.  This story is all about imagining the sensations of deft hands exploring you, your binds, and teasing you in the most extraordinary ways.  Ryo’s examinations bring Carla right to the edge of orgasm and then he leaves her to Erik to take care of, but not before promising to return for more play another time.

    These are just a few of the stories that I enjoyed in the book.  All together there are nineteen stories with varying themes and characters.  There is also an introduction to the book written by the editor in which she mentions that she picked one of the nineteen stories to act out with her partner.  She doesn’t tell you which one and I have to admit that I found myself wondering after several of the stories if this was the one  she chose.  It kind of added to the enjoyment for me, just a little.

    Roulette Toronto is a Reel Queer film directed by Courtney Trouble. The best thing about these films, other than the sexy stars, is that none of them are doing any of the sex acts just for the money.  There is no gay-for-pay found here.  These are real queer people having sex the way the enjoy having sex.  The authenticity takes the hotness of it to a whole new level.

    The BonBon by Natural Contours is a discreet but powerful clitoral vibrator.  It’s made of plastic, so the texture is firm and smooth and it comes with it’s own little storage bag.  The BonBon takes 2 AAA batteries which go into a little compartment on the side.  The compartment is actually a little hard to open once you close it all the way.  The best way to get it open is to press down on the grooves on the cover and slowly slide it away from the toy.  It might take a few tries to get it all the way off, but it can be done!

    To operate the BonBon, press the raised button down by the tip.  The first press will give you the highest steady vibration setting, which is pretty strong for such a small vibrator.  If you press the button again, you’ll get the medium strength steady vibration and a third push will give the low steady vibration.  There is one more vibration setting for this little vibrator (just push the button again after the last steady vibration) and it is a strong pulse.  To turn the vibrator off, push the button one more time.

    Now, the design of this toy is so that you can nestle it against your pubic bone and deliver vibrations via the tip to your clit.  It has a slight curve on the underside to help make this comfortable.  The vibrations can be felt throughout the body of the toy, but they seem to be focused in the tip.  I tried this vibrator in multiple positions in both partner and solo sex to make sure it got a thorough review.  At first, when I was checking out all the vibration settings I was a little intimidated by the strongest setting.  It seemed like it would be too much or possibly numbing.  It turns out that there is a situation for every setting.

    So, let’s start with missionary partner sex.  I thought this would be my favorite way to use this vibrator because of it’s small size.  It seems like it would work well to put this between you and a partner and enjoy yourself, but I found that it required more positioning or being held in place than I expected.  I like to have the vibrations right against my clit and if I just laid it there, they weren’t quite reaching it.  Also, I like a lot of pressure on my clit, so pressing the hard plastic down was sometimes uncomfortable with the not quite rounded edges.

    Next, girl on top sex with the BonBon.  This was just kind of awkward and un-fun.  I felt like I was focusing too much on where it was positioned and not enough on enjoying it.  It had to be held in place but I also had to be cautious not to grind it against my partner.

    Using the BonBon for doggy style sex turned out to be more ideal for me.  It was most comfortable, though it does require you to hold it in place the entire time, and allowed me to rub it on my clit since there was more room for my hand.  I used it during regular vaginal doggy style sex and anal doggy style sex (the biggest hit for me).  I mentioned earlier that there is a situation for all the vibration settings, well here is where that comes in.  I surprised myself when using the BonBon during doggy style anal sex on the highest setting.  I was on vacation and pretty drunk, but it was just the right amount of vibration for that state.  And to top it off, I had my first anal orgasm while using the BonBon, so it’s definitely a favorite for that position.

    I also tried the BonBon during a masturbation session.  I found that I usually prefer the medium vibration setting and like to use it for clitoral stimulation with a non-vibrating dildo.  I found that the hard plastic and shape of the BonBon had me using it more for warm up than for orgasms, but it definitely has the vibration strength to finish those who have more sensitive clits.

    The BonBon is great for travel because it is so light weight and discreet.  I used the storage bag it came with (dark brown draw string bag) to store it in and packed it in my checked luggage while I was on vacation and had no problems with it.  It’s also splash proof but not waterproof, so don’t submerge it but feel safe washing it.  I suggest soap and warm water for cleaning.
